Frequently Asked Questions

About Our Design Philosophy

What is the core design philosophy of Country of Jules?

Our philosophy centers on creating functional, inviting, and unique havens that blend European Charm with Vermont Comfort. We draw heavily on Scandinavian design principles—clean lines, functionality, and cozy elegance—to craft spaces that feel both timeless and deeply personal.

It means combining the sophistication, quality craftsmanship, and appreciation for history often found in European design with the durable, practical, and natural aesthetic of Vermont living. The result is a home that is both elegant for entertaining and comfortable for everyday life.

What does "European Charm Meets Vermont Comfort" mean?

What is the designer's background and how does it influence the designs?

Our designs are deeply influenced by a European background and a passion for Scandinavian aesthetics. Over a decade of collaboration with Danish, Swedish, and Dutch companies has instilled a profound appreciation for beautiful, highly functional design that prioritizes well-being.

How do you ensure my home design is unique to me?

We favor the personal touch of hand sketching because it allows us to translate emotions, dreams, and the soul of the design onto paper. This fosters a more intimate, collaborative connection with the client and the design concept from the very beginning.

Why do you use hand sketching instead of computer-generated renderings?

Our collaborative process starts with attentive listening and an in-depth consultation. We look beyond trends to uncover your unique story, needs, and aspirations, ensuring that the final design is a authentic reflection of your personality, not a copied blueprint.

Integrating Biophilic Design

What is Biophilic Design?

Biophilic Design is an architectural and interior design concept that incorporates nature into the built environment to improve health, well-being, and productivity. It acknowledges that humans have an innate connection to nature and aims to reinforce that connection within your home.

How does Country of Jules incorporate Biophilic Design into a space?

We integrate Biophilic Design by using natural materials (wood, stone), maximizing natural light, improving ventilation, selecting colors and patterns found in nature, and creating visual and tangible connections to the outdoors.

What are the key benefits of using Biophilic Design in my home?

The benefits are significant and include reduced stress levels, improved cognitive function, enhanced creativity, accelerated healing, and an overall greater sense of peace and tranquility within your living environment.

Does Biophilic Design only mean adding more houseplants?

No, it is much more comprehensive than simply adding greenery. While houseplants are a component, Biophilic Design also involves architectural decisions (like view placement), material choices, air quality, natural light optimization, and patterns that mimic natural systems (e.g., repeating textures or fractal geometry).

Is Biophilic Design compatible with the Scandinavian and European styles you favor?

Absolutely. Scandinavian design, with its emphasis on natural materials (light wood, wool), clean lines, and maximizing natural light, is inherently compatible with Biophilic principles. We seamlessly merge these concepts to create spaces that are both beautifully designed and profoundly restorative.

Services and The Design Process

What range of interior design services do you offer?

We offer full-service interior design, including comprehensive consultation, space planning, conceptual design, custom furniture and millwork design, sourcing of materials, furniture, and décor, and project management through installation.

How does the design process begin?

It all starts with a complimentary Discovery Call where we discuss your project scope, needs, and vision. This is followed by an in-depth Consultation where we dive deep into your lifestyle, preferences, and the space itself.

How long does a typical interior design project take?

The duration varies greatly depending on the scope and complexity. A single-room refresh may take 8-12 weeks, while a full-scale renovation or new build can take 6-18 months. We provide a projected timeline after the initial consultation.

Yes. We believe successful design is a team effort. We happily collaborate with your preferred architects, builders, and contractors, or we can recommend trusted professionals from our established network.

Do you assist with sourcing and purchasing materials and furniture?

Do you work with contractors and architects?

Yes, meticulous sourcing is a core part of our service. We leverage our network of vendors to find high-quality, unique, and often custom pieces that align with your aesthetic, budget, and the principles of enduring Scandinavian/European design.

What if I am not sure what my exact style is?

That's perfectly normal! Our role is to guide you. Through targeted questions, image reviews, and deep conversations during the consultation phase, we help articulate the aesthetic and feeling you want your home to embody, translating unspoken desires into a tangible design.

Logistics and Collaboration

Where is Country of Jules based and what is your service area?

We are proudly based in Saint Albans, Vermont. While we primarily serve clients throughout Vermont and the greater New England area, we are also available for remote and destination projects upon request.

How do you approach budget setting for a project?

Can you incorporate my existing furniture or heirlooms into the new design?

What is the difference between a decorator and an interior designer?

Transparency is crucial. We establish a realistic budget early in the process based on your needs, the scope of work, and the quality of materials desired. We manage the budget meticulously throughout the project to avoid surprises.

Absolutely. We see treasured items and heirlooms as valuable elements of your unique story. We strive to integrate them thoughtfully, ensuring they fit seamlessly with the new design and contribute to the overall character of the space.

While a decorator focuses on aesthetics (paint, furniture, décor), as a full-service Interior Designer, we are trained to handle complex design challenges, space planning, structural modifications, lighting plans, and working directly with architects and builders to ensure both beauty and functional integrity.
